Founded in 2013 as the Studentenparochie St. Augustinus, we are the one and only Roman Catholic student parish in the city of Groningen. Officially, we are a parish and, as such, have a different organization than most other student organisations. Most importantly, we do not have any official members and, accordingly, there is no obligatory attendance or contribution fee. People participate in our activities on a voluntary basis.
Every month, and generally on Wednesdays, St. Augustinus organizes many different activities. These activities are, among others, bible study, catechesis, student mass, pilgrimages, bring and share meals, movie or game nights, and much more. Since 2016, we have also introduced the international renowned phenomenon of Theology on Tap to Groningen. With this great variety of activities, we try to strengthen and deepen the Catholic faith of our ‘members’, while also offering that typical Dutch sense of enjoyment and community called ‘gezelligheid’.
Those that participate in our activities are a very diverse group of people: students, PhD’s and young professionals of all around the world, including of course the Netherlands. Moreover, we are a very open group: it is not necessary for you to be a full-fledged Catholic to join our activities.
